Ellen Starr Lyon, ever-evolving state of being mother/wife/woman

Ellen works in oil and paints about what she loves. She employs vibrant color and an intimate look at everyday objects and scenes. “Our lives are all so busy with what feels like constant motion. I collect moments that to me describe a person or show a beautiful, ordinary scene in a very intimate way. Within that context, my current body of work centers on teenagers, their strong emotions, gender issues and their use of technology but also the ever-evolving state of being a mother/wife/woman. I want to document it all!”

She is a native Hoosier and long-time resident of Bloomington. She and her husband Art are raising two children, two cats and a pup. One often finds her stealing a few precious moments to escape deep into a novel while a tornado of family life swirls around her.

Ellen Starr Lyon received a BFA in Painting and BA in Art History from Indiana University; the school has purchased two of her paintings. She has participated in many solo and juried shows throughout Indiana and the Midwest.
