Sue Roberts, ceramic sculpture with an attitude

Sue Roberts has been a professional studio artist working in ceramic and metal sculpture for over 20 years. After completing a BFA in ceramic sculpture at the University of Kansas, she went on to study life modeling at the Art Students League in New York City, and bronze casting/metalwork in Central Florida. She’s taught sculpture and ceramics in various workshops around the country, including at Penland School of Crafts in North Carolina.

Having worked in a variety of materials, including wax, wood, copper and aluminum sheet metal, Sue returned to sculpting in clay, which she then fires, paints and seals with an encaustic (wax and resin) finish.

Sue Roberts’ work has been displayed in museum shows and galleries across the United States and in Japan, and is in numerous private collections throughout the country. Her work was featured in the 1998 Neiman Marcus Christmas catalog. In 2002 she received an artist residency at Penland School of Crafts.

She currently maintains a studio and residence on Guemes Island, Washington.
