Lee Lanier is an American born painter currently living Boulder City, Nevada. A self-taught artist, Lee began painting after establishing himself as an internationally-recognized animator, visual effects artist, and short film director.
As an animator, Lee worked for Walt Disney Studios and DreamWorks Animation. As a short film director, his works have played at over 200 film festivals, galleries, and museums worldwide. He's also authored eight books on the topic of computer animation and visual effects and has taught the same subject at the Gnomon School of Visual Effects in Hollywood, Academy of Art University in San Francisco, University of Monterrey in Mexico, and Pixl Visn Media Arts Academy in Cologne, Germany. He supports his fellow filmmakers and artists by running Nevada's largest film festival, the Dam Short Film Festival, and managing several gallery spaces in Boulder City.
Lee's paintings are modern interpretations on old myths. Gods, goddesses, saints, sinners, demons, and demigods from a wide variety of cultures are portrayed. Sometimes the paintings take the form of modern glamour shots or classic pin-ups. Other times, they emulate stills from horror films.
Lee works with acrylic, painting on canvas, woods boards, and various found objects. He works fast, averaging 150 paintings a year.
