Tanya Fletcher, Metal Leaf Figure Paintings
Metal Leaf Figure Paintings:
This current body of work consists of life sized figures rendered in oil w/ silver leaf backgrounds on Baltic birch. An even layer of oil color is applied & then selectively removed with a cloth. The revealed grain of the wood suggests skin and/or contours of the body endowing the forms with a 3-dimensional sculptural look. The artist’s theatrical use of size & composition imbues these paintings with emotional intensity & drama. This visceral aesthetic, however, still maintains an ambiguity, leaving the context up to the audience.
Tanya Fletcher earned her BFA at the Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA. The artist is affiliated with the Barn Gallery in Ogunquit, ME & the Mast Cove Gallery in Kennebunkport, ME.
