I am a Canadian figurative painter and am now compelled to work on two distinct projects. The first is a series of portraits through which I intend to strengthen my illusionistic facility. Representational accuracy and an attention to detail are more important here. The other is the more impressionistic, ambiguous body of work in which I represent groups of people in a way that obscures and fractures some of the forms within the composition. Both strands should have the weight and presence of what one sees in life. In this way, both projects relate and inform one another.
