Figurative Sculpture
DATE: OCTOBER 3-7 2011 (Monday -Friday 9am – 4pm -with additional elective events)
This intensive course is designed to further the students grasp of the human form through a series of lectures and exercises that will address both the technical as well as the conceptual aspects of figuration.
Through the use of models and diagrams the course will begin with a general study of anatomical premises and experiment with the expressive language of gesture through simple rendering exercises.
Students will then sculpt from life a detailed rendering from which they will create a hollow figurative ceramic sculpture suitable for firing. Techniques offered will include general anatomy,strategies for figurative rendering from visual sources,hollow slab construction and detailing skills for achieving clarity and interest in sculpture.
All levels are welcome.
LOCATION:
This workshop will take place in the Education Facility at the Museum of Contemporary Art of Puerto Rico, located in the historical building Rafael M.de Labra in Santurce, Puerto Rico.
