Paraphrasing from Wikipedia, a portrait is an artistic representation of a person, in which the face and its expression is predominant. The intent is to display the likeness, personality, and even the mood. A portrait often looks directly at us, in order to most successfully engage the subject with the viewer.
I liken the peaks and valleys, the folds and flat plains of the human face to a living landscape. Rivers and tangles of hair, the shadows and lights, the summits of noses, the ridges of lips and the pools of the eyes all converge in almost infinite combinations of inspiration.
Through simple tools, I am not attempting perfect representation. Instead I continue to seek to bring these subjects to life
